Ian Mailing has been committed to the study of science, human nature, and philosophy for 30 years.  In the early 1990’s, as a corporate leader and soon-to-be parent, he became fascinated with human motivation and how our belief systems shape the quality of life we experience.  Not satisfied with traditional shortcuts to the answers, Ian continues to research and develop his own philosophy, he calls “Valuism,” which is summarized in the example page. In his spare time, Ian coordinates a local philosophy discussion meet-up group with over 850 on-line members and 30 regular attendees.  He is most passionate about helping others to challenge their way of thinking, to becoming more aware and self-empowered, and to developing a philosophical perspective that enables them to achieve their highest aspirations.  While Ian prefers to advocate for science and the study of human nature as the road to deeper understanding, he also holds a particular admiration for the works of philosophers Bertrand Russell and Karl Popper.

Ian holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. He enjoyed a 20 year career in the telecommunication services industry leveraging creative and project management skills to design and develop products and services and direct organizations in Engineering, Operations, Marketing and Sales Support.   In more recent years, Ian employed his creative talents and his business experience to design and build a number of custom homes in the northern Detroit suburbs.  He is also the creator of the successfully syndicated word puzzle Unolingo™ available daily on USAToday.com, offered for download on all Apple and Android devices, and attainable in books at Amazon.com.   Ian enjoys a passion for games and puzzles and is a state ranked Chess and Table Tennis player.   He is 60 years old and resides in West Bloomfield, Michigan with his wife Sue, and they have three adult children.
